December Newsletter

Welcome Summer, oh how we’ve missed you! With the warmer weather upon us, and the holiday season approaching at lightning speed, the centre is a-buzz in anticipation of all that this time of year brings. Educators have come up with exciting activities for children and families to enjoy, and we can’t wait to share these with you as details come to hand!

Thank you to all the parents/caregivers who kindly made donations for toys and other equipment we had on offer. All koha (donations) are being used to purchase new resources for the children to enjoy.

Summer clothing A reminder that a sunhat and several changes of weather appropriate clothing is needed every day. T-shirts are encouraged, rather than singlets or tank tops, to provide further coverage.

Sunblock We have now changed the brand of sunblock we use at the centre as the previous brand was causing a few skin reactions. Thank you to those parents who have brought in their own supply of sunblock for this reason. If you’d like us to try the new brand on your child, please let educators know.

More sunblock Educators will re-apply sunblock to all children after lunch. Please remember it is parents’ responsibility to ensure sunblock is applied at the beginning of each day. This can be done at home as part of your morning routine, or on arrival at preschool.

Free hours for 0-2 yrs For a limited time, we are offering 6 free hours per week for under 3 year olds! Current parents have a few options here. You can either add 1 full day, add 1 – 2 half days, or extend your child’s current half day booking(s). Please ask Telena if you’d like more info.

Referral programme If you refer a new child to the centre, you’ll receive a cash payment of $150 for the first week that they attend. Once the new child has been attending for 3 months, you’ll receive a further $150. If you refer 2 or more children from the same whānau, the payment amounts will double!

The children are in full swing practising their songs for the upcoming Christmas Picnic. Included in their repertoire, is a haka that celebrates healthy eating. And it goes a little something like this….

Panana, panana
Pītiti, pītiti
Āporo, āporo
Ārani, ārani
He kai pai mō te tinana e

Come along with the whole family and enjoy the festivities! Bring a picnic for your family and a blanket to sit on.
Children are invited to dress up in their best Christmas-inspired outfit/costume.

With a new season beginning, our current programme focuses on celebrating all that is summer. This includes Christmas-themed experiences as the holiday season approaches, as well as activities to make the most of the warm weather, such as community walks, water play and other outdoor play experiences.

To celebrate the countdown to the holidays, we have planned an advent calendar full of summer-themed experiences, with one being ‘unwrapped’ each day. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for daily updates.

Over the next few weeks we will be coming together as a centre for music sessions, picnics etc. This allows siblings to connect during their preschool day, and gives children and staff opportunities to strengthen relationships throughout the centre, and enjoy time as a centre whānau.

Lastly, from our whānau to yours we wish you the very best for the upcoming festive seasons. We hope you have a safe and happy holiday, and we look forward to sharing another fantastic year with you all!
